In addition to our president and board of trustees, our system leadership includes
officers overseeing operations, budget and finance, human resources, technology, planning,
development, communications and compliance.
Senior Vice President for Administration and Chief Operating Officer
Ed Walton is responsible for coordinating the planning and activities across non-academic
areas of the university. The Division of Administration and Finance oversees the areas
of business affairs, communications and marketing, economic engagement, facilities
and transportation, finance, government and community relations and law enforcement
Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer
Leslie Brunelli coordinates the day-to-day and long-term planning of the financial
operations of the university. She oversees the compilation of financial and budget
reporting and is responsible for implementing financial policies established by trustees.
Areas under this office include the controller, budget, bursar and capital finance.
Vice President for Human Resources
Chris Byrd helps plan, implement and promote programs through the Division of Human
Resources that improve our ability to attract, develop, reward and retain the exceptional
faculty and staff members of the Gamecock family.
Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
William Hogue provides leadership for information technology, instructional services,
e-learning and cyber infrastructure research. Under his direction, the Division of
Information Technology also provides operational support for these services through
University Technology Services.
Vice President for System Planning
Mary Anne Fitzpatrick is responsible for reinforcing connections among all campuses,
including Aiken, Beaufort, Columbia, Upstate and the four regional Palmetto College
campuses. She leads the effort to unify our campuses allowing the system to meet South
Carolina’s need for a highly educated work force and supports the broad range of professional
goals of our students.
Vice President for University Development
Jancy Houck leads the university’s fundraising program to secure private gifts in
support of students, faculty, research, programs and facilities. In 2015 the university
successfully completed Carolina’s Promise, an eight-year, $1 billion fundraising campaign
that garnered support from 136,850 alumni, friends, parents, faculty, staff, corporations,
foundations and organizations.
Director of Communications and Public Affairs and Chief Communications Officer
Wes Hickman is the university’s spokesman and leads the team that tells the stories
of our students, faculty and staff. Those stories are shared with the general public
through the news media, our own printed publications and our digital communications.
General Counsel and Executive Director of Compliance Programs
Walter "Terry" Parham is responsible for all institutional legal advice, including
drafting contracts, interpreting federal and state laws and regulations and reviewing
all university policy development. His office represents the university in litigation
and serves as a clearinghouse for responses to requests for information made under
the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.
